Hi, I’m Adam and I’m a Biochemistry Student at the University of Warwick (currently on placement at AstraZeneca). I am passionate about utilising my editorial experience to provide young people a voice within the scientific community. I’m particularly interested in structural biochemistry, immunology, and protein trafficking. Outside the lab I enjoy a games night with friends and watching Marvel films.
As part of the Youth STEM Matters Team, Adam has:
Led the overall delivery of the vision and strategy of Youth STEM Matters, including the peer review process, systems & policies, team development, recruitment, quality, and publishing
Led the development of Youth STEM Matters’ International Advisory Group
Developed and delivered training to Reviewers and Copy-Editors on ‘Reviewing a Scientific Paper’ and ‘Building Critical Evaluation’
Created Youth STEM Matters’ Referencing Guide
Participated in the Youth STEM Summit, as a Speaker for the ‘Scientific Publishing for Maximum Impact’ session
Organised and led Focus Groups to review the training undertaken by Reviewers
Assessed applications and conducted interviews for Head of Science Communication in October 2020; Editors & Managing Editor in June/July 2020; a range of roles in the June 2020 and April 2020 application cycles
Initiated and organised the interview: “In Conversation With Prof. Rana Dajani”
Conducted interviews for: Youth STEM Summit Design Team; Reviewers in the August 2020 application cycle
Attended the interview: “In Conversation With Yasmin Ali”
Been the Primary Handling Editor for 1 paper, and undertook the Typesetting of the article
Created Youth STEM Matters’ Graphical Presentation Guide
Created Youth STEM Matters’ ‘Reviewer’s Guide’
As part of Co-Founding Youth STEM Matters, Adam:
Developed the Volunteer Team structure and role outlines
Wrote the Youth STEM Matters Submission Guidance
Reviewed the Youth STEM Matters Ethics Policy
Co-wrote the Youth STEM Matters Author Checklist
Jointly created the Editorial Task used in the Volunteer Team application process
Supported the development of Reviewer & Copy-Editor Training Phase, specifically on ‘How We Edit’ and ‘Building Critical Evaluation’
Reviewed key organisation-wide policy documents
Worked as a part of a team on journal ideation, research and development
